Before the Ride
If after refreshing your browser, and trying again, the online registration system isn’t working you can either contact the office (970.926.9292, email@example.com) or mail the signed offline registration form along with a check to SOS Outreach, PO Box 2020, Avon, CO 81620.
In true Colorado fashion, the ride will go on, regardless of the weather; hence, no refunds.
Packet pick up is available at the Eagle County SOS Outreach office (450 Miller Ranch Rd, Edwards, CO 81632) on Friday, July 24 from 10am-5pm. You may also pick up your packet at the Elk Lot on the morning of the ride, starting at 6am.
Parking is available in the Elk Lot at the route start, with overflow parking available further down Highway 6 in the Bear Lot.Friends and family members only attending the Post Party should also park in the Elk Lot. There is a paved path that goes from the far west end of the Elk Lot up to Prater road, just above the Landing, where the post party is held. Riders returning from the post party to their vehicles can use the path or the road – use caution either way!
SOS reserves a block of rooms at a local hotel. We do our best to secure discounts. More information about accommodations is available here. If you are planning on camping, the closest campground is in Wolcott. Walmart in Avon also allows you to park a trailer or motorhome overnight.
If your register and request a jersey request before June 30, your order will be in your registration packet. You can pick it up the day before or the morning of the ride. For orders placed after June 30, we cannot guarantee your size will be available in time for the ride. We will place a second jersey order after the Ride in order to fulfill any late orders. Those will be mailed to you in August. There will be a limited size run available for purchase the day of the Ride.
There will be a limited size run available at packet pick up and the start line for trade-ins, but we can only guarantee the size you ordered will be available the day-of. We are happy to order the correct size for you and have it shipped after the event.
All three routes start at the Beaver Creek Elk lot, which is located in Avon on Highway 6, in between Avon Road and Beaver Creek Blvd. We have a rolling start, between 6:30am and 8:00am. Riders may depart at their own convenience. However, riders completing the 48 mile route are advised to start closer to 8am as the post party will not be up and running until 11:00am.
With three different routes, riders of every ability can participate in the Ride. The course is not overly technical. The hardest section is when you turn off Highway 6 for the climb from Wolcott up to Wolcott Divide (68 and 100 mile course only). But don’t worry! There is an aid station at the top of the climb where you can refuel before continuing on. The other section that challenges people is the slow climb from Dotsero to Eagle (100 mile course only). It is not steep, but after having already completed the rest of the route, it can be exhausting, especially as it is often very hot.
The sections of the course along Highway 6 and 131 are paved – you are either on the bike path, or a wide shoulder. Where there is a bike path please use it, and always be aware of drivers. The River Road is hard packed dirt, with a few sections of gravel. We preview the course the day before the Ride, and will alert riders of any potential challenges or changes of conditions. There is no cell or radio service on the River Road.
All riders are required to wear ANSI or SNELL approved helmets, ride in accordance with State of Colorado traffic laws, ride single file, and stay to the right side of the road. Colorado State Patrol and local officials will issue citations for failure to do so.
Colorado weather changes quickly. Riders are encouraged to carry clothing suitable for hot and cold temperatures and wet and dry weather.
Mechanical support will be provided; however, riders are encouraged to carry patch kits, spare tubes, pumps and tools. Air pumps, lube and a basic tool will be available on the route, but riders are encouraged to carry their own spare tubes.
Trained volunteers from Eagle County Ambulance will be on hand to provide medical support, but it is recommended that cyclists carry their own first aid kits and be prepared to deal with minor medical problems. There may also be riding EMTs and ER doctors.
SAG support is included with your entry fee. Look for the signed vehicles. In the case of an emergency, each will be prepared to transport you and your bicycle to the next aid station or finish line, or contact professional medical personnel via radio. SAG vehicles are equipped with water, a few snacks, basic medical kits, and basic bike repair kits.
The Finish Line and Post Party
All three routes end at Beaver Creek Landing and the River Ride Festival Finish. The Landing is a short way up Prater Road, off of Highway 6, at the top of the Riverfront Express Gondola.
Yes! The post party is open to the public, and all ages are welcome to attend. Riders will receive one drink, and one food ticket along with their entry, but additional food and drinks may be purchased by all attendees, and the entertainment is free for anyone to enjoy.
