This itinerary is a guide for the weekend! Please know that due to the many variables out in the mountains, items may be subject to change to ensure your experience is as enjoyable as possible!
 

SCHEDULE

Friday, january 17: Early arrivals *optional”
  • Early arrivals (if arranged with Grand Imperial Hotel at (+1-970-387-5527)
  • 7pm: Optional dinner & drinks with SOS Alumni and Staff

saturday, january 18: welcome to silverton!
  • Before 5pm: Arrivals, Grand Imperial Hotel
  • 3pm-6pm: evo gear pick-up | Lobby, Grand Imperial Hotel
  • MANDATORY 6PM: Welcome reception & Circle of Love toast
    Meet our incredible group for the weekend – you all make up an unbelievable crew including SOS alumni, staff, board members, corporate partners, and friends of SOS Outreach. 
  • 6:30pm-7:30pm:  Welcome Dinner | Lacey Rose Saloon, Grand Imperial Hotel
  • 8pm: Athlete & Adventurer Changemaker Panel!
  • 8:35pm: San Juan Safety Briefing

 

Sunday, January 19: San Juan Backcountry Day & Fundraiser Dinner 
  • 6:30am-7:30am: Breakfast | Lacey Rose Saloon, Grand Imperial Hotel
    • Menu: Breakfast Burritos (Vege or Sausage) from the Coffee Bear, Yogurt with Fresh Berries and Granola, Hard Boiled Eggs, Fresh Fruit, Granola Bars
  • 8:00am: Meet your San Juan Expeditions Guide & Group | Lobby, Grand Imperial Hotel
  • 8:30am: Depart Hotel with San Juan Expeditions Guide & Group
  • 9:00am-4:00pm: Guided Skiing/Riding in Red Mountain Pass, Coal Bank Pass, or Molas Pass with San Juan Expeditions
    • Boxed lunches from Tom’s Deli 
  • 2pm: Bar Opens for those who wrap early | Lacey Rose Saloon, Grand Imperial Hotel
  • 4:00pm: Return to Grand Imperial Hotel with Guide & Group
  • 6:00pm: Welcome Bite & Briefing by Silverton Mountain – Gabby | Lacey Rose Saloon, Grand Imperial Hotel
    • Safety Briefing by Silverton Mountain 
      • Sign waivers
      • Lunch orders
      • Additional heli drops 
  • 6:25pm – 9pm: Fundraising Dinner | Lacey Rose Saloon, Grand Imperial Hotel
    • 8:10pm – 8:30pm:  Alumni Panel

Monday, January 20: Silverton Mountain Takeover!
  • 6:30am-7:30am: Breakfast | Lacey Rose Saloon, Grand Imperial Hotel
    • Menu:  Breakfast Burritos from the Coffee Bear (Vegetarian and Sausage options available), Yogurt with Fresh Berries and Granola, Hard Boiled Eggs, Fresh Fruit, Granola Bars.
  • 7:30am: Leave for Silverton Mountain | Lobby, Grand Imperial Hotel
    • Drive self to Silverton Mountain 
  • 8am: Arrive at Silverton Mountain
    • Check-in
    • Lunch Orders
    • Purchase Additional Heli drops
    • Gear Check
  • 9am: Depart with Silverton Mountain Guides
  • 9am-3pm: Skiing/Riding at Silverton Mountain *last chair at 3pm*
    • Boxed lunch to be provided by Silverton Mountain
    • Heads up:  Porta Potties only 
  • 3pm-5pm: Après | Grady’s Bar Yurt, Silverton Mountain
    Menu: Beer, Sparkling Water, Charcuterie Board with a mountain mix of salami, prosciutto, brie, havarti dill and gouda cheeses, dried fruit, pickles, olives. Served with baguette, table crackers, and gluten-free rice crackers.
  • 5pm: Return to Grand Imperial Hotel – Caravan
  • 5:30pm-6:30pm:  Rental Returns with Evo and San Juan 
    • Please make sure you return all rentals before dinner – we will have a checklist to ensure our partners have their gear back. 
  • 6:30pm – 8pm: Closing Dinner & Farewell Circle of Love | Lacey Rose Saloon, Grand Imperial Hotel
    • **PLEASE BRING WINTER JACKETS for after-dinner circle of love **

HOTEL
Your hotel reservation will be under your name by the end of this week at the Grand Imperial Hotel with check-in on Saturday (3pm-8pm) and checkout on Tuesday (before 11am), unless otherwise arranged. If you’d like to arrive a day early on Friday (for an additional fee) please call the Grand Imperial Hotel (+1-970-387-5527) to arrange ASAP.

TRAVEL INFO 

  • Unless otherwise noted in your registration, all hotel rooms are booked from
    Saturday, January 18 – Tuesday, January 21 
  • Please plan to arrive Saturday afternoon before 5pm to collect your rental gear and check-in prior to our Welcome Reception & Dinner! 
  • Check the roads! Before you drive to the San Juans it is always a good idea to check the road conditions to make sure Red Mountain Pass is open. If it closes, you will need to reroute your trip to go from the other side of Silverton from Durango.

    • If it helps your travel, we do have hotel rooms available for Friday night (for an additional fee) if you’d like to arrive a day early.  Please reserve ASAP with the Grand Imperial Hotel (+1-970-387-5527).

RENTAL GEAR
Many, many thanks to our amazing friends at evo Denver for generously providing all gear requested via the survey you filled out! 

    • Gear Pick-up: Sat, Jan 18 from 3pm-6pm in the Lobby of Grand Imperial Hotel. 
      If you are arriving late, please text Anthony at 813-527-5316 to coordinate gear pick-up.  
    • Gear Return:  Monday, Jan 20 at 5:30pm – 6:30pm in the Lobby of Grand Imperial Hotel.
      If you are departing early, please let Anthony or Laura know. 
  • Note:  We recommend bringing powder skis for Monday at Silverton Mountain, as you will not be needing the touring equipment on Monday.  

 

PACKING LIST 

Sunday:  Guiding Backcountry Skiing/Riding with San Juan Expeditions

  • *Snowshoes are not allowed*
  • Avalanche Rescue Equipment
    • Avalanche probe
    • Collapsible shovel
    • Avalanche beacon / transceiver (digital 457 kHz frequency only) three antenna transceivers are preferred
  • Skiing Equipment 
    • Alpine Touring/AT Boots
    • Alpine Touring/AT Skis with touring alpine bindings or telemark bindings. (please adjust bindings to boots and skins to skis in advance)
    • Skins that fit your skis (pre-cut)
    • Telescoping Poles
  • Snowboarding Equipment
    • Split Board with touring bindings and skins (please adjust bindings to boots and skins to board before the course)
    • Collapsible poles OR Snowboard (with means of attachment to pack—please have a system worked out before you arrive)
  • Clothing
  • Ski socks
  • Warm hat 
  • Helmet
  • Wool or Synthetic Base Layer (top + bottom)
  • Mid-weight / breathable insulating layer
  • Hardshell or softshell ski/snowboard pants
  • Hardshell (waterproof + breathable) jacket
  • Puffy’ jacket (i.e. 800 fill) ‘security’ puffy (down or synthetic)
  • Gloves (two pairs are best – a lighter pair for going up & a warmer pair)
  • Misc Items
  • Sunglasses and/or Goggles
  • Sunscreen and lip balm: water/sweat-proof
  • Personal first-aid / repair kit
  • Camera or Smartphone
  • Headlamp
  • Water bottle (at least 1 litre); *we do not advise Camelbacks

  • Ski Backpack (large enough to fit all gear INSIDE)

 

Monday:  Private Skiing at Silverton Mountain 

Note: While you are welcome to use your evo touring rental gear, we recommend bringing your own skiing/riding equipment for Silverton Mountain.

  • Backpack to carry above items with ski/snowboard carrying capabilities.

  • Powder Skis (the fatter the better)
    • Note: K2 super fat skis are available for rent at Silverton Mountain. Boot rentals are not available.

  • Snowboard
    • Note: Venture snowboards are available for rent at Silverton Mountain. Please bring your own boots, bindings, and hardware if you are planning to rent a Venture Snowboard.

  • Please bring layers… for everything from warm and sunny to cold and snowy mountain weather. Equipment made with waterproof material is encouraged.

DRESS CODE 
The dress code for the entire weekend is casual!
We’re aiming for comfort after big days of riding and skiing, so don’t worry about getting fancy. 

TIPPING YOUR GUIDES 
Please highly consider tipping your guides both days (Sunday and Monday)!
Cash tips are preferred but the guides also accept venmo.  A $30-$50 tip per person is recommended.
