Helping Youth Thrive in Park City: How SOS Outreach Builds Confidence, Community, and Opportunity

Helping Youth Thrive in Park City: How SOS Outreach Builds Confidence, Community, and Opportunity

For over a decade, SOS Outreach has helped Park City youth discover confidence, belonging, and leadership through mentorship and outdoor adventure.

Park City is known around the world for its mountains, but for hundreds of local young people each year, those mountains represent something even more meaningful: opportunity.

Through long-term mentorship and outdoor experiences, SOS Outreach helps youth build confidence, develop leadership skills, and form lasting relationships with caring adults. While skiing and snowboarding at Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley are an important part of the journey, the true impact goes far beyond the slopes.

Each season, more than 600 local youth participate in SOS Outreach programs in Park City, supported by 100 dedicated volunteer mentors who invest their time, encouragement, and energy into helping the next generation thrive.

Whether you’re looking for a meaningful way to volunteer, a trusted nonprofit to support, or want to learn more about youth programs in Park City, here’s why SOS Outreach continues to make a lasting difference in the community.

Supporting Park City’s Youth Through Mentorship

Growing up comes with challenges, and every young person deserves someone who believes in their potential.

At SOS Outreach, participants are paired with trained volunteer mentors who provide encouragement, consistency, and positive role modeling throughout the season. Together, they learn new outdoor skills while building confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of belonging.

The results speak for themselves.

Among youth participating in the SOS Mentor Program:

  • 96% report, “I have adults in my life that care about me and support me.”

  • 96% say they feel included in their peer group.

  • 95% report feeling connected to others when participating in community programs.

  • 94% say they have places in their community where they belong.

  • 94% feel that adults listen to them and value their opinions.

These outcomes reflect more than a successful program—they reflect a stronger, more connected Park City community.

Outdoor Adventure Creates Lifelong Growth

The mountains surrounding Park City offer more than incredible recreation.

They provide a classroom for learning resilience, leadership, teamwork, and perseverance.

Through programs at Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley, youth challenge themselves in new ways while developing skills they carry into school, work, and everyday life.

Over the past year, Park City participants and mentors spent:

  • 13,350 hours together outdoors during program days.

  • 1,188 hours participating in social-emotional learning workshops focused on communication, leadership, goal setting, and healthy decision-making.

  • 473 hours serving the Park City community through volunteer service projects.

Every hour spent together strengthens relationships and creates opportunities for young people to discover what they’re capable of.

Expanding Access to the Outdoors

While Park City is home to world-class outdoor recreation, access isn’t equal for every family.

Today, 41% of SOS Outreach participants in Park City come from households earning less than $40,000 annually.

For many youth, financial barriers can make skiing, snowboarding, equipment, transportation, and outdoor programming inaccessible.

SOS Outreach works to remove those barriers so every young person—regardless of income—has the opportunity to experience the confidence, joy, and personal growth that comes from spending time outdoors.

By making these experiences possible, SOS isn’t simply teaching outdoor skills—it’s helping ensure that all youth have the chance to participate in one of Park City’s defining community assets.

Volunteer Opportunities in Park City

One caring adult can make a lasting impact.

Each year, approximately 100 volunteer mentors help create supportive relationships that encourage young people to grow both on and off the mountain.

You don’t need to be an expert skier or snowboarder to become a mentor.

What matters most is showing up consistently, listening, encouraging, and helping participants believe in themselves.

As an SOS Outreach mentor, you’ll:

  • Build meaningful relationships with local youth.

  • Spend time outdoors at Park City Mountain Resort.

  • Support confidence and leadership development.

  • Join a community of passionate volunteers committed to making Park City stronger.

Many mentors say volunteering with SOS Outreach becomes one of the most rewarding parts of their year.

If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities in Park City that create lasting impact, mentoring is a meaningful way to give back to your community.

Investing in the Future of Park City

When young people feel connected to their community, everyone benefits.

The confidence built through mentorship often leads to stronger leaders, more engaged students, and young adults who continue giving back to the places they call home.

By investing in youth today, Park City is investing in its future.

Every mentor, donor, partner, and volunteer helps make that future possible.

Support SOS Outreach Through Live PC Give PC

One of the easiest ways to support local youth is by participating in Live PC Give PC, Park City’s annual day of giving.

Each year, the campaign brings together residents, businesses, and nonprofits to strengthen the community through philanthropy.

A gift to SOS Outreach during Live PC Give PC helps provide mentorship, outdoor experiences, leadership development, equipment, transportation, and scholarships for local youth who might not otherwise have access to these opportunities.

Whether you make your first donation or continue your longtime support, every contribution helps more young people discover confidence, belonging, and possibility.
