Our Team

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Seth developed a passion for skiing early, co-leading his high school ski club. After earning a graduate degree in nonprofit management, he and his wife moved to Colorado for hospitality work. Through a volunteer program at his hotel, he connected with SOS Outreach, where he has since grown across multiple roles. Seth focuses on building connections to enhance impact at SOS. He has two kids, and skiing with them has been a magical part of his life.

Elizabeth joined SOS Outreach in August 2019 to lead program delivery across 15 locations, supporting over 3,000 youth annually. With extensive experience in outdoor-based youth development, she previously served as the Rocky Mountain Program Director for the Colorado Outward Bound School and as Director of Programs for Big City Mountaineers. Passionate about experiential education, Elizabeth enjoys managing a dynamic team to run innovative mentoring programs. Based in Denver, she loves skiing, mountain biking, traveling, golfing, and spending time with her dog, Willa Mae.

John comes to SOS from an extensive career in ski resort sales & marketing, parks & rec, and nonprofit development. With a degree from CU Boulder and MBA in Integrated Marketing Communications, John strives to complement real world experience with classroom learnings. It’s this combination of ski, recreation, marketing, fundraising and SOS’ youth-focused mission that pulled John toward this role. An avid skier, biker, musician and father of 2 energetic boys, John enjoys year-round mountain living to the fullest.

VP of Development
Heather Rogers joined SOS in February 2019, initially providing administrative and financial support before becoming the Director of Systems and People. She streamlines administrative needs across locations and contributes to staff strategy and growth to align with youth support. Heather manages hiring, onboarding, and human resources, providing fiscal oversight alongside the Executive Director and COO. Based in Denver, CO, she is passionate about the outdoors, enjoying snowboarding, hiking, biking, and teaching aerial fitness.

After volunteering with SOS Outreach in 2021, Caroline was inspired by its unique outdoor-based mentorship program. She joined the team in January 2023, eager to combine her professional experience with her passion for youth development and the outdoors. Caroline’s background includes integrated marketing and brand partnerships with organizations like the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and Vail Resorts. She lives in North Lake Tahoe with her partner Andrew and dog Blair, enjoying skiing, camping, and mountain biking on weekends.

Anthony joined SOS in 2024, seeking a mission that aligns with his values of growth, exploration, and service. With a background in franchise consulting, sales, community marketing, and social media management, he found the Partnerships & Events Manager role a perfect fit for bridging his experience with his passion for service in the outdoor industry. Living in Colorado with his wife and three fur babies, Anthony enjoys snowboarding, yoga, photography, meditation, and basketball. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications and an MBA in Marketing.

Inspired by her love for the outdoors and a passion for inclusivity, Laura joined SOS Outreach in 2023. A former management consultant focused on growth strategy, she now lives in Park City, Utah, with her golden retriever and polydactyl cat. An avid skier, sailor, hiker, and biker, she enjoys chasing sunshine, snow, and wind. Laura is a Northwestern University graduate, serves on the Lake Geneva Yacht Club board, and is a member of the Women’s Giving Fund at the Park City Community Foundation.

Tarah joined SOS in 2020 after serving as a Youth Development Specialist with the Peace Corps in Morocco. She worked with the Island Institute in Maine and managed programs in Hawaii. Back in Colorado, she combined her passion for nature and youth service as a guide for the Colorado Mountain Club. Now in Summit County, she holds a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Tarah Waters

Senior Program Manager
Since leaving Missouri in 2018 with a BA in Communication from Missouri State University (Go Bears), Brendan has followed a path of adventure and human connection. This path led him to traveling and working abroad, guiding youth education tours, volunteering with AmeriCorps, and working for a homelessness nonprofit in San Francisco. Brendan joined SOS in 2022, and now shreds with Denver youth in the LTR and Mentor Programs as Front Range Program Manager. Off snow, he’s traveling, camping, rollerblading, and exploring with his wife and their dog, Huey.

Kara joined SOS in January 2023, seeking a purpose beyond just a paycheck. Inspired by the quote, “Glamorize intelligence… Oh, and Live Life like a Muppet,” she discovered her love for snowboarding in 2020 and moved to Denver to deepen her connection to nature. Kara is grateful to be part of a team creating opportunities for youth to explore the outdoors. In addition to her work at SOS, she teaches Aerial Fitness at an inclusive studio, Urban Sanctuary, and has an AA in Marketing. She lives in the Denver area with her partner, Ty.

“Embrace authenticity, seek adventure, spread kindness” is Spencer's personal motto, driving his journey with SOS since 2021. An avid skier, runner, mountain biker, and climber, he is committed to creating an inclusive outdoor community. Spencer holds a BA in Communication Studies from Colorado State University and is based in Reno, Nevada. In his free time, he enjoys exploring the skin-track or trails with his wife and their dogs, Maya and Arlo.

Courtney joined SOS in 2019 after experiencing its impact as a ski/snowboard instructor at Keystone. Relocating to Eagle County, she was excited to join the SOS team. Inspired by the power of outdoor experiences and youth development, Courtney enjoys watching youth grow from middle school through high school and beyond. She holds a BA in Human Services and International Affairs, and a Master's in Nonprofit Management. In her free time, she enjoys snowboarding at Beaver Creek with her husband, Mark, and spending time with her kitten, Ricky Bobby.

Alison has worked at SOS since 2017, leveraging her experience as a snowboard instructor and a degree in nonprofit management. Growing up with outdoor activities, she loves helping others connect to those opportunities. Based in Denver, Alison enjoys the outdoors both professionally and personally. When not snowboarding, she can be found running, hiking, baking, knitting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Alison Canavan

Operations and Volunteer Manager
Heather moved to the mountains for skiing, intending to stay for just one season, but has now lived there for over a decade due to the community. Inspired by the outdoors as a space for growth, she developed a passion for sharing that joy with others. After volunteering with SOS and working at Northstar, she became the North Lake Tahoe Program Manager in 2020. With a BA in Psychology and an MA in Teaching, Heather enjoys skiing, hiking, and exploring local coffee shops in her free time.

After earning her degrees in Education and History from Northern Illinois University in 2010, Morgan fell in love with Tahoe's beauty and community during a vacation. She began volunteering as a youth mentor with SOS in 2016, became a Program Coordinator in 2020, and is now in her fourth year as the South Lake Tahoe Program Manager. Morgan loves reintroducing youth to Tahoe from new perspectives. On her days off, she enjoys art projects, visiting beaches, summits, or camping with her dog, Bailee.

Palmer dreamed of moving west for access to the mountains and landed in Utah, joining SOS Outreach in 2019. Growing up, extracurricular activities helped her discover herself and grow, motivating her to create similar opportunities for young people in her community. She holds a BA in Human Development and Family Science from the University of Georgia. In her free time, Palmer enjoys skiing with friends, soaking up the sun, or having a good dance party.

Tiffanie joined SOS Outreach in 2022 after instructing summer rock climbing programs. Motivated by the transformational power of the outdoors, she has a background in facilitating backpacking and climbing courses to promote resilience and self-efficacy. Originally from Ohio, Tiffanie moved to Utah in 2019 to attend the University of Utah and fell in love with the Wasatch Mountains. In her free time, she enjoys skiing, running, climbing, and reading in the sun.

Rocky joined SOS Outreach in 2024 as the Chicago/Kenosha Program Manager. Growing up in Milwaukee, she credits her experience as a student athlete for shaping her work ethic and confidence. Passionate about empowering disadvantaged communities, Rocky was a youth wrestling coach in Los Angeles and is also an EMT and MTB coach for Milwaukee youth. With a B.A. in Physiology and a Master’s in Global Health, she’s excited to help youth access and enjoy the outdoors. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities, cooking, and spending time with her dog, Mochi.

Raquel Tiyaga

Chicago/Kenosha Program Manager
Foley has spent the last 10 years as an outdoor educator, snowboarding instructor, and travel camp leader in Michigan. Since joining SOS in 2019, he has played a key role in expanding the program in Detroit. Passionate about building community, Foley focuses on creating a sustainable network to help Michigan youth thrive and belong. In his free time, he enjoys skateboarding, reading, creating, and discovering new music.

Inspired by his own mentors, David has dedicated his life to giving back and mentoring youth. With a Bachelor's in Social Work, David has spent 15 years working as an experiential therapist, outdoor educator, skateboard program director, and teen addictions counselor. Seeing youth thrive through SOS’s mountain community fuels his passion. In his free time, he enjoys mountain biking, skating, snowboarding, and supporting his 3 boys in pursuing their passions.

Fernanda joined SOS in 2013 as a Learn to Ride participant and spent 8 years in SOS' Mentor programs. After graduating from Battle Mountain High in 2022, she became SOS's Alumni Liaison while pursuing a Business Administration degree at Colorado Mountain College. Based in Eagle County, she oversees the Alumni Program across all SOS locations. Passionate about giving back, Fernanda creates opportunities for youth and alumni. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor adventures, writing, and drawing.

Growing up on Cape Cod, Kaya always dreamed of moving west. After high school, she traded the sea for snow in Tahoe, becoming an instructor to inspire a passion for snowboarding in youth. Teaching for programs like SOS and the Boys and Girls Club revealed her true calling. The life skills and memories created through outdoor recreation are invaluable. Kaya later became the Northstar Special Programs Coordinator and then the North Lake Tahoe Program Coordinator. When not on the hill, she enjoys horseback riding, reading in the sun, and backpacking in the Sierras.

North Lake Tahoe Program Coordinator
Mae grew up in Colorado but did not develop a love for the outdoors until later in life, which has inspired her strong passion for building equitable and inclusive outdoor spaces. Mae currently serves as the program manager for Summit County. She has a social work background with specific experience in program development. Off the clock, Mae enjoys dancing, trying new things in the outdoors, petting dogs, and slurping down a good bowl of noodle soup.

Originally from Weiser, Idaho, Marybell grew up fishing and camping, sparking her love for the outdoors. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Outdoor Leadership from the University of Idaho, working as a guide in Alaska and Idaho to help youth navigate their lives. This experience solidified her desire to create inclusive outdoor opportunities. Now living in Utah, Marybell joined SOS Outreach in 2023. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, playing in rivers, grilling with her partner and dog, Koda, and watching reality TV.

Park City Learn to Ride Program Coordinator
Erin joined SOS in 2023 as the Utah Mentor Program Coordinator. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, she moved to Utah to work as an outdoor adventure guide for youth. After guiding, she ran a transitional housing program for at-risk youth in Salt Lake City. Passionate about the mountains, Erin taught herself to snowboard and experienced the transformative power of outdoor connection. She holds B.S. degrees in Health and Exercise Science and Environmental Studies from Graceland University. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, floral design, and playing bike polo.

After graduating from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a BA in Journalism in 2019, Hanna became a snowboard instructor in Vail for two seasons. She then worked in Park City, Utah, as a Ski and Ride School Supervisor, where she first experienced the magic of SOS. Now back in Colorado as the LTR Coordinator in Eagle County for the 2024/2025 season, she’s excited to promote the outdoors, community building, and inclusivity. In her free time, Hanna enjoys hiking, snowboarding, yoga, reading, and art projects.

Eagle County Learn to Ride Program Coordinator
Originally from Michigan, Matt moved to Colorado to continue his teaching career and pursue his passion for snowboarding. With over 10 years of experience as a Title 1 teacher in adapted physical education, he has seen many Denver students lack opportunities to explore the mountains. Matt is committed to providing these young people with transformative outdoor experiences. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and a Master's from Chicago State University. In his free time, he enjoys snowboarding, hiking, camping, cooking, and spending time with loved ones.

Since age 5 as a Mt. Rose Rosebud, Sara has loved the mountains and outdoor community. With experience in ski and snowboard instructing, resort event management, and corporate recruiting, she's thrilled to inspire kids to enjoy Lake Tahoe’s natural playground. You’ll likely spot her with her dog, Ollie, nearby. When not alpine or telemark skiing, Sara enjoys mountain biking, waterskiing, surfing, climbing, and exploring. Think snow and see you on the slopes!

South Lake Tahoe Program Coordinator
Originally from California, Lydia grew up surfing, skiing, and camping, fostering a love for the outdoors. After studying Law and Social Sciences at Utrecht University and a brief stint in corporate San Francisco, she switched to outdoor work as a Raft Guide. In 2024, she joined Eagle County SOS, helping youth experience the activities she loves. When not working with SOS, Lydia is likely on the slopes, rafting, or backpacking in remote places.

Kathy Flores, based in Frisco, Colorado, has been a devoted part of SOS Outreach since 2008, helping youth connect with the outdoors. A second-grade Spanish teacher, she brings creativity to her classroom, inspiring a love for language and culture. This year, she’s excited to serve as SOS Outreach’s Learn to Ride Coordinator, combining her passion for snowboarding with youth mentorship. Kathy loves hiking and snowboarding, enriching lives through her commitment to teaching and the outdoors.

Ayden, raised in Wichita, KS, moved to Tacoma, WA, in 2016 to study Biology at the University of Puget Sound. He discovered a passion for outdoor education as a camp counselor in Colorado and later volunteered as a Mentor with SOS in Tacoma. In 2024, he joined SOS as Seattle Program Lead, aiming to connect students with mentors. Outside of work, Ayden enjoys making music, kayaking, playing Geoguessr, and cooking.

Doug joined SOS in 2000, seeking community and connection. He started as a volunteer instructor at Snoqualmie and soon witnessed the program's positive impact on everyone involved. This inspired him to found an SOS chapter at White Pass in 2002 and pursue a career in youth development. Now back as the White Pass Coordinator, Doug enjoys time with his family, supporting his kids, outdoor activities, and wrangling his two energetic dogs.
