We first launched this program as a pilot in 2020 and are thrilled to bring this back for the fifth summer in a row. This unique program is split into two phases and we encourage our participants to at least join us for the first two weeks to gain skills that will apply when they’re ready to join the workforce
Throughout the entirety of the six-week program, our participants are compensated for their time.
Phase one consists of a two-week career-skills intensive. Many of our young people have never held a job before, so this is an opportunity to connect them with key proficiencies before they head off into the professional world.
In phase two, our participants apply, interview, and are ultimately placed in a four-week internship with a company in the outdoor industry. Here, our participants gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and a sampling of different roles and
responsibilities allowing them find their professional strengths and preferences.
At SOS, we are dedicated to helping our young people discover their inner potential and thrive. Our Career Program is the next evolution of our curriculum so that we can help our high school-aged participants gear up for life and be successful in whatever they choose to pursue.

In the meantime, don’t forget to…

Meet Javier!
Javier moved from Mexico to Summit County, CO at the age of 12 in 2006. He joined SOS in high school where he learned to snowboard for the first time. He didn’t know it then, but snowboarding would impact in his life in huge ways.
In 2019, Javier co-found Mountain Dreamers, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to Immigrant’s Rights and Advocacy for people in Summit and Eagle County.
In 2022, he would launch OSO Outdoors – a mountain access program for adults in Summit County. Over half of the adults who participated had kids in SOS programs.
“I can tell you that my time in SOS was life-changing. The work I do now, I don’t think it would have happened if it weren’t for SOS. SOS planted the seed. The seed of opportunity. It provided a safe space to learn. It provided the resources for me to try snowboarding. And I wish I could have been in the program for longer, but I always look back on those years and feel proud of the courage I showed to try this.” – Javier Pineda

We set up a booth with folks from the Open Hearts Collection – A movement founded by Pat Milbery to craft unique products with purpose benefiting SOS Outreach.
Eagle County participants recently attended the GoPro Mountain Games to celebrate their love of nature, connect with the outdoor community, learn about career paths, and hear from change makers!
We were honored to partner with the Outlier Film Series earlier this season to premiere an all-Spanish ski film premiere in Summit County.

A portion of each sale will go directly to supporting youth in SOS.
The Open Hearts Movement stands as a collaborative effort with celebrated artist @Pat Milbery to create products with purpose that reshape our perceptions and conversations around mental health. Fueled and inspired by the uplifting energy of nature, we are unwaveringly committed to preserving the natural world that nurtures and sustains us.
